Here is an option when you fix the roofs in sanctuary. Enclose the car port and enlarge. Credits and distribution permission. The big holes in the roofs really bugged me so i replaced all the roofs with their pre war versions while still maintaining the post war textures.

Tons of roofs some walls and some floors. All this mod does is replace the meshes of the roofs in sanctuary from the broken post war roofs to the pre war roofs while still keeping the post war rusted textures. Nexus fallout 4 mod site has a mod called i think subtle intersection which allows you to slightly intersect objects with eachother. Or tell them to go to the ground.
