Exhaust Vent Roof Leak

These collars consist of a metal base generally made out of aluminum and a rubber boot integrated into the top of the collar.

Fix a leaky roof vent pipe with a oatey rubber gasket. Use a pocketknife to scrape rough edges and sharp points from upper end of plastic vent pipe. A roof that leaks around a vent pipe is a common cause of small water stains on a ceiling or water leaking into a home. These boots vary in quality flexibility and longevity.

Use the knife blade to scrape the pipe clean and smooth. Vent pipe leaks during heavy rain can occur if you have cracks in your vent pipe boot or flashing. Cut away the old caulk from around the vent pipe. Roof vent pipes from plumbing or exhaust vents penetrate the roof and are usually sealed using a collar style flashing made out of a flexible material like epdm rubber or flexible pvc.

If your turbine vent is in good condition turns properly and has no missing fins the leak may be occurring around the base of the vent. Other causes of leaking roof vent are including broken seams on the metal base loosen nails and rusty metal collars around the vent pipe. Roof vents are made from different materials.
